About Reiki

What Is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning 'universal life energy'. Rei can be translated as universal, and Ki as life force energy. This life force energy is energy which resides in everything - animal, vegetable and mineral.

Everything contains 'Ki'. When a practitioner is attuned to Reiki their body's energy channels are opened up and this connects them to the universe's limitless source of Ki. The Reiki Practitioner now has a limitless access to the universes energy which can be used to heal themselves and others.

The Reiki practitioner channels the reiki energy through their hands to the recipient. When a person receives reiki it enables the mind, body and soul to heal itself. Reiki is a gentle but effective form of healing which can work on many levels of a persons being, This means that reiki will always go to where it is needed most, releasing blockages and creating balance. This can often help people to make necessary changes in their life which, up until now has been difficult.

What Happens During A Reiki Treatment?

You will remain fully clothed and will be asked to lay down on your back on a treatment couch. You may wish to be covered with a blanket for extra comfort. If you are unable to lay on your back, you are welcome to lay in any position that is comfortable, you can even remain on a chair.
There are a series of hand positions which I will use working from the top of your head down to your feet on both sides of your body. During this time I will be asking for the universal energy to be channeled through my hands, to you.
A treatment usually lasts about an hour.

What Will I Feel During A Treatment?

You will hopefully feel very relaxed and calm. Sometimes people will fall asleep.
In areas that are out of balance you may experience a feeling of heat. Don't worry if you feel nothing at all, this does not mean that you are not receiving the healing. People often become more aware and sensitive to the sensations of reiki, the more they have.
Some people have reported seeing colours whilst they lay there with their eyes closed. Everyone's experience is personal to them.

Can Anyone Receive Reiki?

Anyone can have a reiki treatment. Children tend to be more sensitive so will only need a short treatment. However, if you have any medical conditions or have any concerns, you are welcome to contact me before making an appointment.

Please note that Reiki Practitioners are not allowed to diagnose medical conditions. Reiki can be used in conjunction with allopathic medicine, but should not be used as a substitute for visiting your GP, should you have serious health concerns.

During Reflexology there may at times be areas on the foot which feel tender or bruised. This is just a sign that the reflex is unbalanced and I will continue to work on that reflex until it is balanced.

Reiki is a very individual experience. Some people will feel a change in temperature as my hands are placed on or above your body. If there is an area that is unbalanced you may feel an increase in heat in that particular area. As you lay with your eyes closed you may see colours. Not everyone feels or sees anything but that doesn't matter as you will still be receiving the healing benefits of Reiki.
